New landing craft to boost UK amphibious offload

Article Abstract:

BAeSEMA has received a contract, valued at around $58 million, for the design and assembly of 10 new-generation Landing Craft Utility (LCU) Mk 10 vessels intended to be used in the UK Royal Navy's new landing platform dock (LPD) ships Albion and Bulwark. Designed for roll-on/roll-off operations, the new LCUs will move troops and equipment between the LPD, other amphibious shipping and the shore. BAeSEMA's Ship and Support Projects group is named main contractor and design authority, having control of ship design, subsystem procurement, construction supervision, trials and acceptance.

Bidders selected for the UK's latest landing ships

Article Abstract:

BAE Systems Marine and Swan Hunter Ltd have each received a contract from the UK Royal Fleet Auxiliary to build amphibious landing ships called the Alternative Landing Ship Logistics. The ships are to replace the ageing Sir Bedivere-class Landing Ship Logistics of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. The Royal Fleet Auxiliary also approved the building of German-designed Strategic Sealift roll-on/roll-off ferries at two shipyards in Belfast, Northern Ireland and at the Flensburger shipyard in Germany.

HMS Invincible gets 'facelift' for new tasks

Article Abstract:

Fleet Support Ltd (FSL) has been awarded a contract to perform major structural work to upgrade the HMS Invincible. The work on the ship would involve major strategic and tactical information upgrade to bring the ship's capabilities in line with the UK's Strategic Defence Review. FSL said that overall work package would involve 40% more structural and 60% more electrical than the work done on the similar Invincible-class HMS Illustrious.
