Sgt. MacGyver: Equipment developers heed soldiers' suggestions

Article Abstract:

Equipment developers are now paying close attention to the soldiers' suggestions regarding the equipments to support the war fighter and the first-responder community. The US Army is conducting an initiative called Sgt. MacGyver initiative, under which a survey of the soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan is conducted for determining various solutions developed by the soldiers during their missions and finding a way for using these solutions in future.

True to its name: 'Sneaky quiet' armored vehicles are a hit with MPs

Article Abstract:

The M1117 Guardian Armored Security Vehicle is a key element in the success of the U.S. Army military police (MP) that patrol the dangerous streets of Iraq and escorts the convoys and VIPs under threat of attack. This vehicle is designed to protect its crew from a variety of threats such as improvised explosive devices, .50-caliber armor piercing rounds and mortar and artillery attacks.

The new assault weapons that will be reaching U.S. infantry units by mid 2005, are described. The XM-29 combat weapon will provide air-burst and kinetic energy capable in the same platform.
