Shoot, move, and communicate: A rifle company operating in an urban environment

Article Abstract:

The tactics, techniques and procedures (TTP) employed by a rifle Company operating in a dense urban environment in Iraq are discussed. Since the enemy and environment changed regularly, TTP were developed, specific to the area of operations and assets, but it was observed that there is a need for revaluation of their own tactics, the enemy and flexibility in methods of operation.

Rethinking the 'Rifle' platoon: Reorganize the platoon around crew-served weapons

Article Abstract:

The employment and effects of crew-served weapons (CSWs) have dominated infantry combat over the years. The experience in Iraq and Afghanistan demonstrate that a restructuring of the Marine Corps is long overdue, and a proposal is discussed for reorganizing the rifle platoon into an infantry platoon, provided with organic CSWs.

Al Anbar Province is making slow but steady progress in key areas of security, economics, governance, transition and communications amidst the violence of the Iraq War. The continued efforts of the Marines and their partners in the Multinational Force-West offer optimistic hopes in the province.
