The armed forces participated in the inauguration ceremonies of President George W. Bush, in keeping with a 200-year tradition. The military's part in the ceremonies is described.

The U.S. Army in Afghanistan; the first boots on the ground

Article Abstract:

The US Army has introduced its first troops to Afghanistan, as special forces raided an airfield near Kandahar and a known Taliban stronghold some 60 miles away. There were some jump-related injuries, and two soldiers died in a helicopter accident, but military resistance was light.

Two HUMINT specialists

Article Abstract:

Tactical human intelligence team (HUMINT) teams (THS) sent to Iraq, which consisted of two female members, Sgt. Nicola Humphrey and Spc. Julia Cuder was an initial jaw-dropper to the mostly male Iraqis with whom the team needs to interact and influence. Sgt. Humphrey believes that though their gender is not so much a factor for them in doing their job, it could possibly be an issue in Iraq's future.
