AutoNation changes gears

Article Abstract:

AutoNation, the US' biggest car dealership chain, has decided to abandon its four-year effort to build a national brand. The move is a departure from earlier efforts to make the AutoNation name the umbrella brand for all of the company's dealerships. The AutoNation brand will instead be used solely for the company's Internet site as well as for its financial services unit. The local names of each dealerships will be used instead by all AutoNation dealers.
