Bell Atlantic plans service that links phone numbers

Article Abstract:

Bell Atlantic Corp is planning to introduce a service that allows users to use a single phone number to receive phone calls at the office, home, on a cellular phone, fax machine, pager or on voice mail. The service will originally be offered to cellular phone users in the Baltimore-Washington area, with the possibility of future users in other cities and with more conventional phone systems. The technology currently requires that people call a human service representative for a change in the call-forward script, but future advancements may allow callers to dial in any new call-forwarding numbers. The service was developed by Access Plus Communications and will cost $15 to $25 per month, in addition to regular fees. McCaw Cellular Communications offers a similar service for $25 a month in Seattle, where 5,000 callers are current subscribers.
