Expert entrepreneur got her show on the road at an early age

Article Abstract:

Gladys Edmunds, owner of Pittsburgh, PA-based Edmunds Travel Consultants, has come a long way from doing odd jobs for other people to becoming an entrepreneur. Edmunds' career started at a card table in her own apartment when she was 16 and posing as a bus charter company. From there, she expanded her business by hiring other mothers on commission. Her business grew to becoe Edmunds Travel Consultants whose clients include WQED Pittsburg, the local affiliate of PBS.

CEO guides Cape Air on steady flight path

Article Abstract:

Much of the credit for the success of Cape Air is being attributed to its president, Dan Wolf, who transformed Cape Air into the US' largest regional airline with revenues of $35 million and more than 350,000 passengers annually. Cape Air flies tourists to Boston, Providence, Hyannis and Nantucket during summer and to Florida, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands during winter. Wolf says good employee-management relations is responsible for Cape Air's success as well as being debt-free.

Contact lens retailer focused on business early on

Article Abstract:

1-800 Contacts founder and CEO Jonathan Coon has grown his company from a part-time dormitory venture into a $100-million company. The company, which is based just outside Salt Lake City, UT, had net sales of $108 million in the first three quarters of 2000. The figure represents a 47% jump from 1999. Its net income also soared 164% to $7.4 million, during the same period. Coon's success is attributable to a combination of product evolution, shifting consumer taste and new technology.
