Edmonton, Ottawa to oust Toronto

Article Abstract:

A new report from the Conference Board of Canada predicts that Edmonton, Alberta and Ottawa, Ontario will overtake Toronto, Ontario in population growth. But the report says that Toronto will continue to be the country's leading economic center.

Conference Board cuts forecast

Article Abstract:

The SARS and mad cow disease scares combined with adverse economic conditions to push down forecasts by the Conference Board of Canada. The Conference Board most sharply cut its economic growth forecasts for the province of Ontario.

Surplus spat diverting attention from Ottawa's fine fiscal form

Article Abstract:

Ottawa's singular record of getting Canada's finances in order exceeding the federal government's surplus for 2003-04 forecast by almost five times. Ottawa's interest payments of $35.8-billion amounted to 7.1 percent of year-end debt of $501.5-billion, since without lower debt, interest rates would probably be higher than they are recently.
