Article Abstract:

Many treatment centers are using the behavioral approaches in creating treatment programs for alcoholics because of the widespread belief that excessive drinking is a behavior disorder. Many programs are based on psychological theories of learning, which aim to understand the underlying psychological conflicts which causes the causes men to develop a dependence on alcohol. Only those individuals who are severely dependent on alcohol are given drug treatments.

Pregnant women should be tested for gestational diabetes, since the condition can cause fetal abnormalities and high blood pressure. Those at high risk are women who are obese, have a family history of diabetes or are African American or Hispanic.
