Keeping the State's secrets

Article Abstract:

The New York Times revealed a top-secret National Security Agency (NSA) programme to tap American phones without court approval, which revealed the report of most intense political crisis of the US President George W. Bush's administration. It was found that willingness of media to stall publication for sake of national security or for the inconvenience of politicians is worrying as though it were the media's job to keep the government's secrets, even when that means hiding official crimes.

Fork in the road

Article Abstract:

The Hyde memorial, which the House passed with uncharacteristic speed in a week, on a near party strike vote of 221 to 184, was a legislative pre-emptive strike against a congressionally mandated bipartisan commission on UN reform. Curiously, the House scarcely debated the agenda of demands contained in the Hyde legislation and critics tacitly accepted them and quarreled only with the withholding of dues.
