Eliciting knowledge from experts: a methodological analysis

Article Abstract:

The transfer of knowledge from experts involves the processes of studying documentation on the body of knowledge, analyzing how a task is performed and asking the expert to explain techniques used in solving problems. Techniques coming under these categories include unstructured interviews, interviews using probing questions, group interviews, group decision making and visualization of a process through graphs. Some of these methods are also being applied to developing artificial intelligence.

Characteristics of skilled option generation in chess

Article Abstract:

The option generation abilities of chess players are studied. Players were divided according to skill levels and asked to recommend succeeding moves for a number of chess positions. Results show that the players were able to provide rational suggestions based on their experience. Decisions were made in an orderly rather than a random process. Players also considered only a few options before making their choices.

Influencing risk preference in decision making: the effects of framing and salience

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate the impact of prospect framing and outcome salience on risk preference in decision making. Results showed that selectively focusing on one side of the outcomes of a risk decision influences risk preference. Results also showed that the influence of prospect framing and salience should be scrutinized in terms of distinct and independent processes.
