Interpersonal mediators in the intergenerational transmission of marital dysfunction

Article Abstract:

Studies done on intergenerational transmission of marital functioning in a sample of 60 newlywed couples by collecting a) retrospective reports of conflict and divorce in spouses' family of origin, b) data on demographic variables and interactional processes likely to increase risk for adverse marital outcomes, and c) the success or failure of the marriage 4 years later is reported. Results reveal the significance of negative interpersonal processes as mediators in the intergenerational transmission of relationship functioning.

Forgiveness in marriage: putting the benefits into context

Article Abstract:

A study to examine the effects of marital forgiveness on changes in marital outcomes over the first two years of marriage by employing a four-wave longitudinal design is conducted. Results provide justification that forgiveness can be beneficial initially and can help keep marriages to benevolent partners over time but further research to determine how forgiveness improves marriages is required.

Beyond initial attraction: physical attractiveness in newlywed marriage

Article Abstract:

A study to examine the impact of absolute and relative levels of physical attraction on the relationship satisfaction and support behavior of newlywed couples is conducted. Results suggest that it is less relevant to the satisfaction and behavior of married couples that spouses be attractive to each other as it is that wives be more attractive tan their husbands.
