Pinkhaus meets the designory

Article Abstract:

A May 1995 merger between the Pinkhaus and The Designory Inc. graphic design firms combines design innovativeness with financial stability. Pinkhaus is a small, avant-garde design firm based in Miami whose clients include Motorola, Nike, the Lipton Tennis Tournament and Royal Caribbean. The Designory is a 125-employee firm specializing in automotive graphic design whose clients include Mercedes Benz, Mitsubishi and Nissan. The merger will allow Pinkhaus to pursue its creative ideas and The Designory to put them to good use.

Graphic designer Lana Rigsby believes that inspiration is the synthesis of outside stimuli and internal reflection. Looking closely at world in the context of the human situation is the seed for creativity and expression. Even the most simple tasks and objects can lead to inspiration when they are invisioned with the wonder of a child.

Article Abstract:

The graphic design profession is undergoing an "identity crisis." Some 10,000 design students enroll in art schools each year, but it is debatable whether design is a marketable skill and can be taught as such. Design is perhaps a mental discipline, as opposed to a craft, and should therefore not be taught as a craft.
