In defense of Villon's 'Lais.'(Francois Villon)

Article Abstract:

The 'Lais' of Francois Villon have been slighted by scholars because they have been considered as preparation for the 'Testament,' his masterpiece. However, the 'Lais' deserve consideration as an autonomous work. The 'Lais' reflect more of a trickster persona, and the poem can be interpreted as a joke as well as a critique of the artificial nature of language systems.

Sur la signification mytho-poetique du motif des "trois cerceuils" de Madame Bovary

Article Abstract:

The three coffins in which Charles wants Emma buried in Gustave Flaubert's 'Madame Bovary' symbolize the three Fates which in classical mythology preside over the birth, marriage and death of men. This ritual seals Charle's destiny and presages his own death. This analysis of Emma's burial is new to Flaubertian criticism. The text of the article is in French.
