Asda bites back in prices battle

Article Abstract:

The decision by UK supermarket chain Asda to obtain supplies of Eukanuba dog food from the European grey market and sell them at a reduced price has drawn attention to conflict between manufacturers and retailers over grey market imports. Manufacturers are not permitted to set recommended retail prices, but are currently not prevented from restricting supply. Some branded goods concerns refuse to supply supermarket chains, claiming that supermarkets are not a suitable retail environment for their goods. It is possible that supermarkets will now begin offering other products, especially CDs, at lower prices.
