Cheer up, Stephen, your next play's just round the corner

Article Abstract:

Actor Stephen Rea is keen to become involved in comedy, moving away from the glum, depressing characters with which he has become associated. However, he plays such a character in his most recent film, 'A Further Gesture.' In this film, he places great emphasis on the effectiveness of stillness and understatement. He also enjoys stage work, which gives the immediacy of a live audience. He sometimes feels that he takes acting too seriously.
