How fast did the dinosaurs run?

Article Abstract:

Palaeontologists are using engineering concepts to study certain aspects of dinosaur size, shape and movement. It is possible to use Froude numbers, for example, to determine how fast different species of dinosaurs could run. It has been established that large dinosaurs usually moved at relatively low speeds, but that certain medium-sized dinosaurs could move extremely quickly. In most cases, biologists are taking research methods from engineering, but the Palaiomation Consortium is headed by engineers working on the advice of biologists. This work involves building a sheep-sized robotic iguanodon.

On the fast track with McLaren

Article Abstract:

McLaren's new MP4 10 is the first racing car to have been completely designed using CAD CAM technology. The team's CAD CAM system is based on a network of Sun SPARC stations and SPARC servers running Computervision's CADDS 5 software. Computerised design is becoming increasingly common in motor racing, allowing teams to adapt cars to new regulations and for the requirements of individual drivers.
