There's a pitbull inside Auntie's lapdog

Article Abstract:

The BBC publication Radio Times, which celebrates its 75th anniversary in Sep 1998, is keen to show that it remains relevant. It is the most profitable magazine in the UK, and is the largest single source of revenue for the BBC after the licence fee. Its sales have fallen considerably since the end of the 1980s, but it has managed to dramatically increase its turnover. It is showing some signs of independence from the BBC, and has even been critical of the BBC at times. However, its cover shots are still reserved for BBC productions.

Alien unintelligence

Article Abstract:

The skeptic movement, created in the US in 1976, is seeking to fight against the growing obsession with the paranormal and mysticism in the UK. There are now two skeptic magazines in the UK, along with an Association of Skeptical Enquiry and a monthly skeptics' forum in London, England. Skeptics aim to encourage a balanced view of the world, along with critical thinking. However, the skeptic movement has attracted relatively few followers because many people are reluctant to have their beliefs challenged.
