New directions in environmental protection

Article Abstract:

Federal budget cutbacks are expected to have a large impact on the future of the EPA and the trends in environmental protection. Crisis management will continue to be a major problem of the EPA, despite of the use of a preventive approach because of weak enforcement of prevention programs. As a result, many environmental problems will remain unsolved.

Politics influence Superfund decisions, study finds

Article Abstract:

A study by the American Enterprise Institute-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies reports that politics have a major influence on the decisions made by the Superfund program. However the Environmental and Protection Agency is saying that the report is faulty and has raised concerns about the methodology used in the conduct of the study.

New model reveals 50% funding shortfall for state water quality programs

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's new model to estimate the cost of running state water quality programs received strong support from state officials. Additional funding of state water programs by Congress will allow for a full implementation of the provisions of the Clean Water Act.
