Plan for Water

Article Abstract:

An analysis is presented on the US Commission on Ocean Policy report. Proposals include the formation of a National Oceans Council, increasing federal funds for ocean research to $1.3 billion, and shifting wildlife management from a species-based to an ecosystem-based approach. Conflict is anticipated regarding money for offshore drilling.

The plan to save Fallingwater

Article Abstract:

Fallingwater is considered Frank Lloyd Wright's best achievement, but it is structurally unsound. Reinforcement of the main beams of the home, originally built for the Edgar Kaufmann family, is described by an engineer who worked on the project in the late 1990s. The actual project will not take place until 2001-02.

Save embyronic stem cell research

Article Abstract:

The promise of benefits from embryonic stem cell research should outweigh moral objections from a minority of people. Current policy does not allow harvesting of the embryos to be funded by federal funds, thus the source has been discarded embryos from in vitro fertilization clinics.
