Planes to make a clean getaway at Denver Airport

Article Abstract:

A program to collect and dispose deicing fluid without stopping operations at Denver Stapleton International Airport is being implemented. Deicing fluid runoff is apollutant and the wastewater effluent equals that produced by 5,000 people. A collection system is installed in the apron area serving the passenger concourses. The inlets are located outide the parking area to minimize runoff. A low-flow diversion structure is also placed in the storm water system at the cargo and general aviation areas. The collected deicing fluid would be recycledand treated at on-site and off-site facilities.

The Denver airport: managing a megaproject

Article Abstract:

The Denver International Airport construction project was a smoothly managed project, despite numerous plan changes. Management structure was kept simple, with construction and design activities divided. Field personnel were granted the authority to make decisions, and communication between upper and lower management was emphasized. Documentation was kept to a minimum; highlighting action items and changes only, to make them easier for management to follow.
