Recording nature's sounds

Article Abstract:

Amateurs are able to pick up sounds from nature with recording equipment. Use of a parabolic dish enables people to collect sounds and record them on a tape recorder with a microphone. The placement of the microphone is important to obtain the sounds desired. Software helps isolate the sounds.

Article Abstract:

An amateur naturalist describes techniques for catching creatures that live in ponds. One option is to build a light-baited trap using materials such as a flashlight, glass jar and wastebasket. Other useful equipment includes a homemade grappling hook and a dredge net.

Much ado about nothing

Article Abstract:

Instructions on measuring exceedingly low pressures in a vacuum using two mechanical gauges are presented. The project is designed to obtain only a rough estimate of the pressure, so no calibration is needed.
