Smart sensors to network the world

Article Abstract:

A pillbox-size computer outfitted with sensors, able to link spontaneously into networks by radio, can monitor factories and ecosystem and can intimately connect the cyber world with the real one. These networks have developed to monitor vibrations of manufacturing equipments, strain on bridges and people in retirement homes.

Quantum-mechanical computers

Article Abstract:

The next phase in the miniaturization of computer chips is likely to involve the creation of parts so small that quantum physics predominates, since existing digital circuit technologies cannot be extended much farther. Quantum computers would be remarkably powerful, but also very unusual.

BLACK HOLE COMPUTERS: in keeping with the spirit of the age, researchers can think of the laws of physics as computer programs and the universe as a computer

Article Abstract:

The article compares the similarities between computers and black holes as physical systems that both record data. While data can be inputted into black holes, retrieving it offers a complex problem. Outgoing radiation from black holes may not be random; theories are discussed.
