The expanding world of trinucleotide repeats

Article Abstract:

Genetic mutations consisting of abnormally long repeats of trinucleotides discovered since 1991, many of which result in disease, have fit a pattern of CAG or CGG repeats, until recently. In Friedreich's ataxia, the sequence GAA is repeated 200-900 times, confounding any attempt at generalization.

The puzzle of the triple repeats

Article Abstract:

Researchers have discovered mutations caused by expanding trinucleotide repeated sequences that have not been found previously in animal models and that are common causes of human disease. The new findings add important information to the field of medical genetics.
