Universities as research joint venture partners: does size of the venture matter?

Article Abstract:

Membership size tends to affect the success of an industry's research joint venture with a university. The possibility of attaining success is greater for research joint ventures (RJVs) having a large number of members than those having a small membership size. Such possibility exists mainly because the loss in appropriable information resulting from university participation decreases as the membership size of an RJV rises. Depreciation in appropriable information loss results to higher net gains for an industry participating in an RJV.

The implementation of TQM in R&D

Article Abstract:

A four phase framework was formulated to illustrate the effective way of implementing total quality management (TQM) in research and development. The framework involves four phases, namely initiation, involvement, implementation and sustenance. The framework shows that success is more likely when a proactive planned approach with clearly defined goals is adopted.
