A log-linear relationship between reported impairments and age: implicationsfor the multistage hypothesis

Article Abstract:

A log-linear and log-log plots were compared to evaluate which mathematical model could correctly predict the relationship between the prevalence impairment and age. Questionnaires relating to functional ability were sent to all physically impaired Canadians in 1986. Impairments were then classified into agility, vision, hearing, and psychological or mental impairments. Though results in both models were similar, the log-linear plot approximated the data more closely.

Measuring functioning and health in the very old

Article Abstract:

The convergentand discriminant validity of short multidimensional measures of health in the elderly were analyzed from the results of the self-reported measures of health and performance-based measures of physical and cognitive measures. The statistical analysis revealed that the brief measures of health and self-reported physical functioning in old individuals have acceptable validity.
