Older patients with colon cancer: is adjuvant chemotherapy safe and effective?

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that adjuvant chemotherapy provides a benefit to colon cancer patients with Stage II and Stage III resected colon cancer. No difference was found between younger and older patients in cancer susceptibility to chemotherapy; however, leukopenia was higher in elderly patients depending on specific drugs administered.

Recent trials have indicated that the aromatase Inhibitors (AI) are effective when used as first-line therapy in metastatic breast cancer (BC). AIs suppress intratumoral and plasma estrogen levels significantly, and has good pharmacological profile with no drug interactions and better tolerability.
