Expert systems in agriculture and resource management

Article Abstract:

Some of the expert systems used in agriculture and biological resource management are described. The discussion of expert systems for agriculture emphasizes decision support systems for crop management while the discussion of expert systems for biological resource management centers of such systems with geographic information systems. Some of the prototype agricultural expert systems are also presented along with an evaluation of the potential environmental impact when these systems are used in agriculture and resource management.

The Convention on Biological Diversity: implications for agriculture

Article Abstract:

The UN Convention on Biological Diversity addresses the issues surrounding the international system of crop genetic resources (CGR). It presents policies to guide agencies in developing strategies to resolve CGR disputes. An assessment of the Convention's policies concerning international property right protection over biological inventions and CGR preservation is presented. Discussions on the controversies surrounding these policies are also included.
