The effects on friendship networks on adolescent depressive symptoms

Article Abstract:

The study investigates whether those who are integrated into friendship networks have better mental health, as measured by number of depressive symptoms, using a variety of network measures of integration. It is shown that the relationship between having more friends and fewer depressive symptoms is largely mediated by a sense of belonging and that social integration promotes mental health by inducing positive feelings about one's relationships with others in the society.

Career mobility and job flocking

Article Abstract:

Ecological mechanism for explaining similarity in human behavior by distinguishing between social networks of person-to-person ties and ecological networks of ties of observability is developed. Results indicate that homophilous individuals exchange information about a favorable destination state by ecological ties of observability, that is, they follow the career mobility of fellow alumi and flock along with them.
