Effects of consequences of advice on patterns or rule control and rule choice

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the effects of consequence type and direction of misstatement on generalized rule control and choice of female college students. Accuracy, overstatement and understatement of rules were analyzed in both gain and loss conditions to compare rule control and choice. The specified response for accurate rules was chosen more often by the subjects if it was stated that it had higher gains and lower losses than alternative responses. Therefore, rule compliance is higher when the favorable results or gains are overstated and unfavorable results or losses are understated.

Effects of reward distribution and performance feedback on competitive responding

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the bases for distributing rewards and performance feedback conditions during competitions. The ratio of total competitive responses made by the winning subject was treated as a function of condition. Proportional distributions were characterized in terms of the resulting schedules of consequences for the individual competitors. Results showed that the type of reward distribution influenced the number of competitive responses for most pair of competitors.
