Gambling against the state: the state and legitimation of gambling

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the state's involvement in the legitimation, expansion, and marketing of gambling activities as it seeks to increase its revenue. The authors argue the state's current attitude towards gambling reflects a shift away from the Protestant work ethic and economic morality, signifying the deregulation of economic attitudes.
