Glucose transporter expression in skeletal muscle of endurance-trained individuals

Article Abstract:

Study was conducted to measure glucose transporters GLUT8 and GLUT12 mRNA levels in endurance-trained versus sedentary individuals in an effort to determine the effect of repeated days of contractile activity on gene expression. The findings suggest an isoform-specific effect on the mRNA of the glucose transporters in human skeletal muscle with repeated days of contractile activity.

Reduced amount and disrupted temporal pattern of spontaneous exercise in diabetic rats

Article Abstract:

Severe untreated Type I diabetes in rats reduces spontaneous exercise in a manner similar to that seen in mdx mouse muscular dystrophy, with reduced running distance and consecutive running times. The demonstration of this phenomenon was done by Wistar rats receiving streptozotocin to produce a model of Type I diabetes.

Studies of a targeted risk reduction intervention through defined exercise (STRRIDE)

Article Abstract:

This paper examines STRRIDE from its clinical perspectives and addresses practical and mechanistic questions about the relationships between doses and intensities of exercise that result in changes in glucose and lipid metabolism while controlling weight loss.
