Calcium transients in astrocyte endfeet cause cerebrovascular constrictions

Article Abstract:

The impact of intracellular Ca(super 2+) concentrations ([Ca(super 2+)]i) in astrocytes on the diameter of small arterioles is determined by using two-photon Ca(super2+) uncaging7,8 to increase [Ca(super 2+)]i. The role of astrocytes in the regulation of cerebrovascular tone is uncertain.

Hibernation in a tropical primate

Article Abstract:

The tropical fat-tailed dwarf lemur hibernates in tree holes for seven months of the year. It shows signs of regular spells of arousal, thus, confirming that even in the hibernating state it can warm up the body to suit the surrounding temperature without awakening.
