Fresh angle on the polar seesaw

Article Abstract:

Various models that study the climatic variation in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres indicate that the climatic variations are caused by the freshwater discharge into the North Atlantic. Model experiments and ocean sediment-core data suggests that the changes in the meridional overturning circulation (MOC) could be caused due to the variety of changes taking place in the Southern Hemisphere.

Grape ripening as a past climate indicator

Article Abstract:

Biological and documentary proxy records are widely used to reconstruct temperature variations to assess the exceptional character of climate fluctuations. Grape-harvest dates, which are related to temperature, offer the potential to trace geographical variations in temperatures over large parts of Europe and the Middle East over past centuries.

The Atlantic heat conveyor slows

Article Abstract:

The computer simulations predict global warming, which weakens the ocean circulation and transports heat from the tropics to higher latitudes in the North Atlantic. One consequence of global warming is to inject more fresh water into the polar and subpolar Atlantic through enhanced precipitation and due to the melting of the Greenland ice cap.
