The flight paths of honeybees recruited by the waggle dance

Article Abstract:

A quantitative description of how effectively 'recruited' honeybees translate the code in the dance into flight to their destinations is demonstrated. In the 'dance language' of honeybees, the dancer generates a specific, coded language that describes the direction and distance from the hive of the new food source, and this message is displaced in both space and time from the dancer's discovery of that source.

Local-feature assembling in visual pattern recognition and generalization in honeybees

Article Abstract:

Honeybees trained to recognize complex visual stimuli based on a single feature generalize their choice to novel stimuli sharing a common feature with the trained stimuli. The mini-brain of the honeybee can extract regularities in its environment and establish correspondences among correlated features.

Scent-triggered navigation in honeybees

Article Abstract:

The three pairs of scent combinations tested on honeybees reveal that associate recall mechanism used by honeybees helps them to navigate successfully and repeatedly to an attractive food source.
