The perceptional life of Janet Callahan

Article Abstract:

Janet Callahan's life shows confusion and ambiguity about the woman's role in the world. In Janet's case, this confusion was resolved by finding religion, in her case Christian fundamentalism. The story covers the most traumatic 14 years of her life, during which she experienced ESP phenomena. Her life history is made up of 24 episodes or legends, linked together by commentaries. The style is egocentric and self-descriptive, and folklorists can identify universal mental stereotypes. It is not surprising that she became religious given her cultural background. Her solution also showed ambition as she went to school and obtained a college degree.

Xenotransplants: proceed with caution

Article Abstract:

Many countries may want to have access to xenotransplants and while the United States has government bodies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which ensure that risks to the public from xenotransplants are minimized, other countries may want to use xenotransplantation but do not have risk-prevention strategies in place. It is therefore very important that countries cooperate so that risks can be minimized. Guidelines on research methods will need to be followed by every nation using the technology. Public consent should possibly be sought.
