Master of the universe
Article Abstract:
Gaining a masters degree in business administration has proved very useful in communicating with and gaining the respect of clients, according to Chetwood Associates Director Roy Collado. He is able to fully understand clients' concerns, and does not run the risk of misinterpreting briefs. His management studies have also had an impact on Chetwood, which is now able to very accurately estimate the overall costs of designing a project in terms of person-hours. Collado believes that improved management is boosting the practice's image.

Union power is back
Article Abstract:
UK labor union Unison is welding more power in the selection of bids for private finance initiative (PFI) projects, resulting in some bids being vetoed on the grounds of job creation and staff retention, rather than value for money. Unison has stepped up its attacks on PFI projects, which it would like to see abolished in favour of keeping to government finance for public sector investment.
