Weather forecaster Joseph G. Galway died on Jun 29, 1998 at the age of 75. He was the first forecaster assigned to the National Weather Service's Severe Local Storms Forecasting Unit in 1952. He served the unit until 1965 and resumed his functions from 1972 to 1982. He also served as the National Severe Storms Forecast Center asst from 1965 to 1972. In addition to his forecasting career, Galway's contributions included developing the Lifted Index in the mid-1950s and conducting pioneering research on jet streams.

Larry Richard Johnson 1944-1998
Article Abstract:
Meteorologist Larry Richard Johnson died on Jul 30, 1998 at the age of 54. He was an active member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) for 29 years and served in several capacities including the positions of chairman of the Omaha-Offutt AMS unit, vice chairman, secretary and chairperson of the Washington, DC, unit. His interest in Civil War history was apparent in his involvement in eastern theater plays. His last portrayal was in the Battle of Gettysburg on Jul 3-4, 1998.
