A city shifts into full-scale recycling
Article Abstract:
Leacheate and methane leaks from unlined landfills in Burlington, VT caused residents to file a class suit against their city government in the mid-1980s. Today, Burlington is a model community for waste recycling in the US. Its Environmental Depot, Wood and Brush Depot and Burlington Compost Project, curbside collection projects and double-lined landfill enable city residents to recycle or dispose of their wastes economically, safely and efficiently.
