Americana: On the Big Road
Article Abstract:
A college graduate was awarded a commercial driver's license and started began training as a truck driver to earn money while waiting for admission to graduate school. He planned to pursue a master of fine arts degree in poetry. His experiences included learning the jargon and culture of the trucker's community and a road accident. After a while, instead of being concerned that he was not at home, he would feel as if he had been born again which he climbed into the cab.

Article Abstract:
South Africa banned television until after the Apollo spaceship landed on the moon, when it became embarrassing for the country not to have television. The reason the government banned television had to do with maintaining the status quo. A man who grew up in South Africa reflects on the differences between television in the US and his homeland.

"Road Rage" Versus Reality
Article Abstract:
Overly aggressive driving, or road rage is on the increase as shown in a 1997 report by the American Automobile Association. However, others feel that the increase in statistics is due to the popularity of the topic in the media and that the data gathering methods in the study may be flawed.
