Reward ruler's short shrift

Article Abstract:

Australian-based Qantas Airways is now basing its frequent-flyer program on miles instead of kilometers. Passengers used to get 3,500 points for a 5,000-kilometer trip. Under the new one-mile-for-one-point system, passengers get only 3,100 points for the same distance--a reduction of 13%. But the amount of points needed from many international rewards has also been reduced. Marco Polo Hotel Group in Hong Kong is giving guests a free copy of the city government's budget, a custom adhered to every budget season. Separately, Small Luxury Hotels of the World says that the majority of its 270 members are promoting their concierge services to former customers.
