Amazon, Barnes & Noble sites benefit from on-demand printing

Article Abstract:

Online book retailers Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com have greatly benefited from their on-demand printing agreements with La Vergne, TN- based Lightning Source Inc. Lightning Source has over 9,000 out-of-print book titles stored digitally. Although the paper back versions of the book from Lightning Source are processed through print-on-demand, their quality is similar to original high-quality paperbacks.

Lighting Source gets Harper Collins

Article Abstract:

New York-based publishing firm Harper Collins has chosen Lighting Source as its provider of print-on-demand services. The agreement allows potential Harper collins customers to order out-of-date or rare books at the publisher's site, www.harpercollins.com. Viewers wishing to buy books from Harper Collins can click links to its retail partners such as Borders.com, BarnesandNoble.com and Amazon.com. Lighting Source will then print the books as the orders come in at its headquarters in Lavergne, TN.

Borders outsourcing fulfillment to Ingram

Article Abstract:

Borders has outsourced its Internet and special-order sales functions to Ingram Book Group. The latter will oversee the picking and packing of online and special orders for Waldenbooks, a division of Borders, based in Ann Arbor, MI. As part of the deal, Ingram has bought Borders' fulfillment center in La Vergne, TN. Borders sold the facility to reduce operating costs and improve its stock price. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
