Leak preview

Article Abstract:

UK company Aquaveyor has launched a new electronic system which can detect leaks in flat roofs within hours. A grid of conducting strips is laid beneath the roof deck waterproofing which forms a series of regularly spaced nodes linked to a microprocessor. The nodes are tested with a low-voltage current every 30 minutes. When a leak occurs grid resistance drops and the system will alert the building manager. It gives precise, detailed information. Problems are that installation cannot be beneath fully bonded roofs, cannot be installed in wet weather and the strips need protection.

Bank managers

Article Abstract:

Innovations for the prevention of soil erosion and soil stabilisation are increasing. The most advanced and most expensive method is the Swiss system Textomur. The polymer geotextiles, steel mesh and grass used can form and stabilise 60 degree slopes. It costs 100 pounds sterling per squared metre. The German method Golpla uses interlocking polyethelyne power units. The Perma Greenfix system protects the soil and grass seeds from the birds by rolling a biodegradable mat over the newly formed slope.

Article Abstract:

Plastic coated profiled steel has become more popular in the UK due to improved durability and new architectural styles. It is widely accepted as a cost-effective, long-lasting roofing and exterior-cladding material. It consists of thin galvanised steel with plastic bonded to 1 or more surfaces. Bitish Steel controls over 50% of the UK market with Colorcoat launched in 1965. PVC coated steel is more popular than PVF (polyvinyl fluoride.) PVF fades less but comprises of thinner steel.
