Call center boom adds to language needs

Article Abstract:

Scotland is fast becoming a destination point for international call centers but the boom has brought with it a number of problems. Chief among these is a shortage of qualified personnel that can speak several languages. The Scottish government, through the Locate in Scotland (LIS) agency, is helping call centers solve the personnel problem and is even providing call centers with turnkey facilities. For instance, Maryland- based Absolute Quality, which provides aftersales support for electronic games and e-commerce companies, got help from LIS when it established its facilities in Glasgow.
