Interview: Kasturi Mahkota

Article Abstract:

Kasturi Mahkota, foreign affairs spokesman of the Patani United Liberation Organisation (PULO), reveals that in principle, the PULO is committed to the separation from Thailand of 'Greater Patani', namely the provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Satun along with several districts of Songkhla. However, he believes that a range of options including autonomy can be addressed as a political solution to the separatist conflict.

Thai drugs smuggling networks reform

Article Abstract:

The development of new networks has resulted into a significant rise in the flow of both amphetamine-type stimulants and heroin. Narcotics trafficking networks in Thailand have reformed following the government crackdown 2003, and new routes are now being used to shift heroine and methamphetamines from Myanmar through Thailand and beyond.
