New realities mean the navy must dominate in the littoral

Article Abstract:

The US Navy is facing the challenges of terrorist attacks and security threats in the littoral, or coastal areas of the world. So, the Navy is relying on its strategic vision that is derived from capstone national security documents, such as, the National Security Strategy and Joint Vision 2020 to guide development of a family of surface warships.

New command will unify navy's maritime force protection units

Article Abstract:

Creation of the marine force protection command (MFPC) is indicative of major restructuring within the U.S. navy hierarchy. MFPC will be responsible for training, equipping and deploying force protection units and other standard procedures.
