The uninvited guests

Article Abstract:

Meteorites provide information about the formation of the Solar System. They are pieces of very old material that have fallen from space to the Earth. Most result from asteroid collisions in the Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter, but over a dozen from the Moon and another 12 from Mars have also been identified. The three main types of meteorite are stone, iron, and stony-iron. Stony-iron meteorites are the rarest and are often quite beautiful. Antarctica is the best place to find meteorites because there the ice and aridity preserve them, sometimes for as long as a million years.

The FDA's struggle to regulate tobacco

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not have the authority to regulate tobacco. The FDA proposed regulations in August 1995 and announced a final rule on August 28, 1996, intended to limit youth access to tobacco products. However, the authority to regulate tobacco rests with Congress and has never been delegated to the FDA. The FDA's claim of authority to regulate tobacco products is based on classification of them as drug delivery devices. The FDA does not have statutory authority to regulate tobacco and faces opposition from Congress and constitutional challenges.
