An analysis of the WTO agrement on the application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures and its implementation in Korea

Article Abstract:

The Uruguay Rounds Agreement Act sought to reform international agricultural trade and establish a foundation for market-oriented policies. Since the trading of agricultural products calls for rules to protect human health, animal health and phytosanitary conditions in all trading countries, as well as the impartial, unbiased enforcement of these rules, the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures was established. A study analyzes the agreement and its implementation in Korea.

Trade in financial services and the role of the GATS: against the backdrop of the Asian financial crisis

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the commitments proposed on financial services under the General Agreement on Trade in Services that was signed on Dec 12, 1997. The function of trade in financial services in an economy and on the international economic was also examined. Results indicated that the agreement supported gradualism and promotes principles of non-discrimination and transparency. However, the agreement suffers from a number of limitations such as the absence of generic guidelines.
