Chips off the old block

Article Abstract:

A number of state governments are wising up to the labor requirements of the high technology industry, specifically the computer and information technology sector, and are taking corrective measures in their worker training programs to address such deficiencies. One of the big attraction of employers to a site is the quality of the workforce, which has to be high to attract computer makers. Added to the qualities needed by the site is the telecommunications infrastructure and access to information resource. On the other hand, the pharmaceutical industry has a manufacturing arm that motivates it to choose a location that offers tax incentives. Its manpower need is not so specialized such that it may choose any location with a favorable business climate.
